Speakeasy
Arts Cooperative is like an indoor art and music festival that lasts
all year. This cooperative art gallery features paintings, photography,
sculptures, furniture, fashion, music, jewelry and lots of other
handmade items. The 5300 square foot storefront has two stories.
The 2nd floor has a retail area and a mezzanine lounge that people
working downtown are encouraged to visit during their lunch hour.
Its one of the few places where you can comfortably sit and eat
your sack lunch from home. Artists can often be found working on
their projects right there in the gallery for all to see. They also
offer free or inexpensive art, acting and music classes. The Healing
Arts Room offers several services, a different one each day of the
week including massage and body wraps, tarot readings, consultations
with a natropathic physician (who also does nutrition counseling),
facials and crystal reiki. The venue is also available to rent for
parties, meetings and classes.
Its a half a block down from Pantages Theater and across from Sanford
& Son. This is Tacoma's best area for foot traffic and will
be even better once McMenemin's moves into the old Elks building
down the street.
